A HOW TO FACILITATORS TRAINING GUIDE

Contents

1. Introduction

The United Nations International Institute for Research and Training for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW) has recently developed the Gender Training Wiki, a tool aimed at communication and knowledge sharing within the gender community. This is the first wiki devoted to gender issues and it offers the ability for users to communicate and share resources on gender training and capacity building.

The wiki contains an interactive map displaying institutions offering gender trainings and upcoming trainings, an automatically generated calendar with trainings in the pipeline, gender related training materials, a section for upcoming and online training courses on gender, and a directory of institutions offering training courses on gender.

Please feel free to play around, create an account, add materials or resources , and of course, provide valuable suggestions either in the suggestion box or via e-mail. As a wiki is always a work in process, and since we are striving for currency and relevancy, we highly value any insights or comments you may have.

Please take a look at the next few pages to learn about what is involved in the Facilitation of UN-INSTRAW’S Gender Training Wikipedia (also known as the wiki). This guide can also be used as a training tool for anyone wanting to take part in creating pages on the wiki.

2. Duties

This is meant to be a checklist tool on how to facilitate the UN-INSTRAW Gender Based wiki. Duties are listed below to help you prioritize what needs to be done to keep the wiki spam free and up to date. You will learn how to complete all these tasks by reading the help contents and technical information that follows in this manual.

A. Check RECENT CHANGES:

‘Recent changes’ has a record of all activity on the wiki. Check recent changes everyday for spam and delete it from the wiki. Also check all the new pages created on the wiki, assuring that they are properly formatted and the appropriate information is added. Delete anything that is not applicable.

B. Asses Information:

Asses what information should be on wiki based on information and sources you have collected and researched.

C. When looking at information that might be useful for the gender wiki ask yourself these questions:

Is the information GENDER related?

Is the information regarding an NGO or institution that provides gender training?

Is the information regarding new gender training?

Is the information regarding grants or scholarships for women?

Is the information regarding a guide, manual or tool for gender trainings?

D. What to look for before creating a new page:

- Is it a training being offered? Check that the date of the training has not expired.

-When adding new organizations to the wiki (under institutions), create a second page (under trainings) for any upcoming gender trainings they may have as well.

-Create a page for each item (ex. UNIFEM would have its own page on the wiki)

-Keep pages in the same format as the other pages in the category
